Requested Action
Consider the Resolution awarding a contract for the construction of South Main Street Improvements (Hunt St. to Broad St.) to McMahon Contracting, LP, for construction, to Brittain and Crawford LLC, for surveying and authorizing funding for an amount not to exceed $4,630,000.
Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends approval of the Resolution.
Description/History
The project was bid on September 28, 2018 and there were four bidders for the project. The lowest qualified bidder was McMahon Contracting, LP. Bids ranged from a low bid of $4,228,518.90 to a high bid of $5,943,354.00.

The contract time for this project is two hundred twenty (220) working days or approximately 11 months with an early completion incentive of $1,000 per day. South Main Street will be reconstructed as a four-lane roadway incorporating on-street parking, bicycle and pedestrian facilities and enhanced urban streetscape. This project will also include water, sewer and storm drain improvements. It is anticipated that a Notice to Proceed will be issued and work will start in early November, beginning with water and sanitary sewer installations.

The requested funds are for a construction contract in the amount of $4,228,518.90, a 5% construction contingency, $107,400.00 for survey services which includes a 20% contingency, materials testing and other miscellaneous services needed to complete the construction of the project within a budget not to exceed $4,630,000.00.
