Project Update

The 2009 Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Master Plan included a spine trail phasing and prioritization plan. This trail segment “M” which is 2.25 miles from McKnight Park East through the shops at Broad over to Carlin Road then continuing on to Elmer Oliver Nature Park which is a continuation of the existing Walnut Creek Linear Park trail system. Kimley Horn and Associates Inc., was retained in fall of 2019 to formulate the conceptual trail plan, analyze the street adjacency on Cannon Drive and Matlock Road and then develop the Construction documents for advertisement and bidding for section 3A of trail the development. March 2019 - In December of 2019, Kimley Horn and Associates Inc., was retained to begin the analysis and design for sections 3A/B of section “M” of the Walnut Creek linear park trail system from McKnight Park East to Elmer Oliver Nature Park through the Shops at Broad Development. Through January and February of 2020, all site survey and base data was completed, reviewed and construction documents began for the 3A section. Those documents are currently in review with the City at 60%. We are presently looking at a May 2020 advertisement for construction with a summer timeframe for implementation. The feasibility analysis on the 3B section is also 60% complete with ongoing input from Public Works, Transportation and Engineering. That report will be complete in April of 2020 with recommendations on how to proceed.

April 2020 - Preliminary internal review for section 3A is complete and that information is being relayed to the Consultant. We will be looking at the schedule as the current world disruption has had a small impact on review processes and procedures.
