Title

Resolution - A Resolution Authorizing a Change Order to the Contract with Iron-T Construction, Inc. for the Construction of Kimberly Court Drainage Improvements and Authorizing Additional Funds in the Amount of $11,880.00 (Drainage Utility Fund)

Requested Action

The Environmental Staff recommends the approval of the change order to the contract with Iron-T Construction, Inc. and authorizing additional funds.

Recommendation

The Environmental Staff recommends the approval of the change order to the contract with Iron-T Construction, Inc. and authorizing additional funds.

Description/History

The project was awarded on November 12, 2018 by Resolution 3525-18 to Iron-T Construction, Inc. for $66,809.00. Total funding authorized was $76,150.00 which included a 5% contingency.

One of the components of the project is excavation of a shallow detention area. The design engineer, Halff Associates, miscalculated the quantity of excavation due to confusion in the earthwork modeling software regarding volume under the house foundation. The original excavation estimate was 360 cy. The new excavation amount is roughly 756 cy.

The requested additional funds are for a construction contract change order in the amount of $11,880.00. The scope of this project was relatively small, and therefore the percent increase seems very large given the small amount.

Justification

This was a quantity miscalculation during the project design. The results would not have affected the selected bidder or the resultant total cost of the project.

The Environmental Manager will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed change order.

Funding Source

The funding source will be the Drainage Utility Fund.
