Description/History
In 2013, the Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation (MPFDC) purchased approximately 12 acres of the 16-acre tract of land at 604 W. Broad Street for future park development purposes. The site was formerly owned by one of Mansfield’s co-founders Ralph Man.
On August 13, 2018, City Council directed staff to move forward with design of the City’s first off-leash dog park at this location. On May 28, 2019, the City Council awarded a construction contract to Ratliff Construction to build the first phase of the dog park. The new off-leash dog park is under construction with a pubic opening expected in early 2020.
Justification
In an effort to name parks and facilities, the President of the MPFDC appointed a naming committee to make recommendations to the Board. The committee will meet prior to the board meeting to discuss proposed names for the off-leash dog park. The committee will follow the guidelines outlined in the Park Naming Policy and will bring a name recommendation to the board for consideration. If the board approves a name for the new park, it will be forwarded to City Council for final consideration and action.
