Description/History
The City of Mansfield and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) entered into a Local Project Advance Funding Agreement (AFA) on September 2, 2015 for the construction of the Historic Mansfield Hike and Bike Trail Connection. Completed in January 2019, the project included a 10’-wide concrete pedestrian and bicycle trail on both sides of the street that connects Historic Downtown Mansfield along North Main Street to the city-wide linear park trail system. The project provided new curbs and concrete barriers to narrow the roadway for traffic calming, ornamental fencing, street and pedestrian lighting for ambience, and provide managed drive approaches along the street.

City Council’s original vision for the project included adding lighting on the proposed concrete railing to enhance the visual appearance of the bridge and entrance into Historic Downtown Mansfield. The proposed project includes the installation of approximately 2,160 linear feet of strip LED lighting in a custom aluminum channel that will be attached to the concrete railing on the pedestrian side of the trail. Provided by Organic Lighting Systems, the project will include control systems that will allow staff to program the lighting in 16 million color combinations.

The bid opening was held on November 7, 2019. NEMA 3 Electric, Inc. is the recommended low bidder. Th...
