Description/History

The project includes the site development and construction of a new fire station facility at the southeast corner of National Parkway and South Holland Road.  Komatsu Architects were hired in November of 2018 to design a facility to address current and future needs of the Fire Department for that portion of the City.  The proposed single story, 13,000 square foot building will provide four apparatus bays, along with a total of nine (9) staff dorm rooms to meet the needs of the Fire Department personnel.

On December 17, 2019, thirteen (13) Competitive Sealed Proposals were received and publicly opened.  City Staff, with assistance from the project architect, determined that O'Haver Contractors best met the defined evaluation criteria of cost, reference/experience, delivery time and financial strength in order to provide the best value for the City of Mansfield.  References of the five lowest bid amounts were contacted and reviewed by City Staff and Komatsu Architects.

The contract amount of $5,150,000 includes the contractor's bid of $4,900,000, along with an owner's contingency of $250,000.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February and completion is expected by February 2021.

Justification

The location of this fire station will provide the citizens living in the southeast portion of the city the same coverage and response times as those living in the northwest and northeast portions of the city.  The addition of this station, apparatus, and personnel will also increase the possibility of raising the city's ISO rating from a 2 to 1.
