Requested Action

Approval of the Resolution Calling the May 2, 2020 General Election for the City of Mansfield.

Recommendation

City staff recommends the City Council order the General Election to be held on May 2, 2020 and June Runoff Election, if necessary, by approving the resolution outlining the election procedures.

Description/History

Pursuant to Section 41.001 of the Texas Election Code and the Home Rule Charter, the City is required to conduct its general election on the first Saturday in May.  The following positions are scheduled to be on the May 2020 General Election ballot:

 

Council Member, Place 6

Council Member, Place 7

 

At the January 13, 2020 Regular City Council Meeting the Council called for a Special Election to be held on the same day as the General Election, May 2, 2020, to fill the following vacancies: 

 

Mayor, Place 1

Council Member, Place 2

 

The City Secretary's Office is distributing candidate packets upon request.

Justification
General and Special Elections are to be held in accordance with the Home Rule Charter and State Law.

Funding Source

Funds are allocated in the City Council budget (001-8806-11-01) for this expenditure.
