WALNUT CREEK LINEAR PARK - PHASE 3B
The 2020 Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Spaces Master plan included a spine trail phasing and prioritization plan. The second priority in this plan was trail segment “M” which is 2.25 miles of off/on street sections from James McKnight Park East through the Shops at Broad and continuing as an on-street section along Cannon Drive and Matlock Road to Elmer W Oliver Nature Park. Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. was retained to design Trail Section 3B (Cannon Drive to Elmer Oliver Nature Park) and prepare construction documents.

On June 6th, staff held a meeting with Kimley-Horn to discuss the conflicts identified in their site analysis. Several key factors were addressed and direction was given to proceed with further design. The Kimley-Horn team is currently focused on constructing models and exhibits for a future interdepartmental staff meeting. Staff is currently staff is holding interdepartmental meetings with city staff and Kimley Horn’s team to discuss construction models and exhibits. This selection will reconfigure the design schedule and the full scope of the project. Final deliverables are expected in the late Fall.


McCLENDON PARK IMPROVEMENTS
Funding was provided through repurposed general obligation bonds allocated by the City Council during the FY2020-2021 capital budget discussion to address the aging park playground amenities, trail connection, and the addition of a splash pad for the southwest quadrant of the city. City Council and Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation (MPFDC) agreed to provide $1,800,000 in additional funding in the FY22 budget.
