To approve a Resolution supporting the adoption of the 2023 National Electrical Code (“NEC”)
Recommendation
The Department of Planning and Development Services recommends that the Resolution be adopted as presented.
Description/History
Both the State of Texas and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (“TDLR”) have adopted the 2023 Edition of the National Electrical Code (“NEC”); the adoption of the 2023 Edition of the NEC is the mandatory minimum standard state-wide, which became effective on September 1, 2023.
The City of Mansfield last adopted the 2017 Edition of the NEC on June 20, 2019. The current edition of the NEC is adopted by the State of Texas every three (3) years once issued.
Justification
To ensure the requirements that are enforced by the City of Mansfield are up to date and consistent with the minimum standards adopted by the State of Texas it is necessary to adopt the 2023 Edition of the NEC. Adopting the 2023 Edition of the NEC will ensure that the City of Mansfield is in compliance with all applicable licensing mandates and will remove any conflicts with outdated editions of the NEC.
Attached to the Resolution is Exhibit “A” --- which contains the amendments to the 2023 NEC.
