Recommendation

As this request is not eligible under the Downtown Activation Grant Program, staff recommends that the applicant reapply through the Mansfield Commission for the Arts. Spring application deadline is May 15th, 2024.

Description/History

Open Range Properties LLC applied in April of 2023 to the Mansfield Commission for the Arts for a grant to complete a mural on the South facing side of 208 E Broad Street. At that time, the arts commission made a decision not to fund the mural project because the public arts master plan had not been put in place yet as well as concern over fully funding a project that neither the commission nor the community had a part in the selection or management of the art. Since the Cultural Arts Master Plan is now adopted, staff recommends the applicant reapply this Spring, May 15, 2024, for the Mansfield Commission for the Arts, with additional details to be included regarding the management and selection of the artwork.

Justification

The Downtown Activation Grant Program is designed to assist with the expense of hosting events that will bring people to downtown.
