Consider the Resolution awarding maintenance contracts to NPL Construction Company and Crutchfield Coring and Concrete Cutting, Inc. for miscellaneous city wide concrete repairs.
Recommendation
The Public Works Staff recommends approval of the Resolution.
Description/History
To supplement the work performed by city street maintenance crews outside contractors are hired to perform concrete street and sidewalk repairs and maintenance. These contractors typically handle repairs on thoroughfare streets while the City crews repair residential areas and lesser traveled roadways. The previous bid for concrete repairs was in 2014. The low bidder for that project was Crutchfield Coring and Concrete Cutting, Inc. and has been the City’s contractor since that time. To establish a wider range of individual unit prices and to foster competition among contractors for the best prices the miscellaneous concrete repairs were advertised on Bid Sync on January 31, 2017 with bids received on February 23, 2017. There were 2 bidders for this work. The low bid for the total of all items was Crutchfield Coring and Concrete Cutting, Inc. however on individual unit prices for concrete panel replacements NPL Construction Company was the low bidder. The estimated expenditure by the Streets Department for this work is $200,000 to $400,000 per year. The award of the bid is for one year with the option to renew for 4 additional one year periods.
