Description/History
In preparation for the upcoming revision to the 10-Year Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Master Plan, Department staff identified the need for a more global look at the athletic field needs within the City of Mansfield. The outcomes of the Athletic Field Master Plan are to:
· Provide a review of the existing facilities and uses and collection of background Information.
· Analyze current uses by all users of existing facilities.
· Gather information from City staff, through public workshops and through surveys. Utilize other methods needed to collect relevant data related to current and future uses.
· Determine needs related to increased use of the athletic fields.
· Establish a prioritized project list that identifies needs, improvements and enhancements to existing facilities and the development of new athletic fields.

The project will specifically address re-development of the Michael L. Skinner Sports Complex and James McKnight Park East. The new master plans will address appropriate infrastructure considerations, as well as future recreational amenities to be determined during the planning process. A consultant contract has been awarded to Schrickel, Rollins and Associates, Inc. for this portion of the project.

January 2018 - The first round of public meetings was held on October 25-26, 2017 at the Chris Burkett Service Center with a total of 18 citizens in attendance. The first meeting was also broadcast live on Facebook, so citizens can watch the meeting at their convenience. Each meeting included an overview presentation from staff, as well as an open house forum before and after the meetings to take input and feedback that will help shape our goals, priorities and future plans.
